when the generals talk

no more are needed,
but no fewer are either,

If they could only
come to the same conclusion
about the deceased…

I realize this poem is directed specifically to war
and I read it
without reading the title
and so was not directed
and saw
how everything
is perfect.

mikaelah,

hopefully most of the haikus here are open to interpretation, even though they are usually spurred by specific ideas (even when there’s no indication of this in the title). I’m glad you found something in it.

thanks Howard,
I think I know that, just did not read the title until after I had experienced the words and then I (not being very much of a news person) did not even know who the General was. I looked him up and learned a suprising amount of things about his career. So much gets packed into these small haiku packages!

I meant to point this out earlier, that the title is also the title of a Midnight Oil song that I used to listen to a lot.
