Subtle electric fires

One of my Whitman favorites:

O YOU whom I often and silently come where you are, that I may be with you;
As I walk by your side, or sit near, or remain in the same room with you,
Little you know the subtle electric fire that for your sake is playing within me.

– Walt Whitman

Beautiful.
There should always be someone in our lives that makes us feel that way. Pity that it isn’t easy to find.

Maybe we should all aspire to be that person Whitman was writing about.

It might be even harder to be the inspiration for this kind of poem than it is to find someone like that. Or maybe that doesn’t quite make sense… I guess all of it is really in the eye of the beholder anyway.
