Friday random ten
(like 15 strangers dancing)

  • We Can’t Make It Here – James McMurtry
  • Hammer and a Nail – Indigo Girls
  • She – Green Day
  • Song for You – Fuel
  • Crushing Hand – Lost Dogs
  • Don’t Panic – Coldplay
  • Jerusalem – Dan Bern
  • Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing – Marvin Gaye
  • Busted – Matchbox Twenty
  • Crazy (acoustic) – Seal

YouTube pick of the week: a live rendition of the McMurtry song, which I might have never heard of had it not been covered by Shawn Mullins at a show I got to see for free.
Blame it on the Raina: I just downloaded “Jerusalem” this past Monday after watching Raina Rose cover it on Sunday evening. Absolutely irreverent and funny. Also makes two songs on the same list that I discovered because of performances by someone other than the original artists.
If I could be a real singer and have just one voice: It would be Seal’s

The people who we are:
Autumn
Brian
Ben
Fred
Jeff
Lauren

Cool list, as usual. I nominated you as a thinking blogger. See today’s post! ;-)

James McMurtry! you don’t see that everyday. “Where’d You Hide the Body” gets pretty consistent play in my pod.

Also, I’ve really been enjoying your Haiku(s?) lately. Thanks for the good reading.

[…] The Smedley Log (I could never figure out where “Busted” came from: it was so dark and heavy for M20. Now I wish Thomas had the balls to do something that isn’t superficial and insipid) […]

I particularly enjoy the phrase “Blame it on the Raina.” There was a time in my life when I would have been completely behind that sentiment. Thankfully, those days are past. These days I enjoy my sister.

Jerusalem is a great tune, I suggest the “50 Eggs” cd as a good Dan Bern primer.
