Friday random ten
(for my angel in black)

  • November – Duncan Sheik
  • Running to Stand Still – U2
  • Daddy Can’t Shoot – Ruth Ruth
  • Not My Cup of Tea – The Verve Pipe
  • So Lonely – The Police
  • Eurotrash Girl – Cracker
  • People Get Ready – The Frames
  • God Part II – U2
  • Be Here Now – Mason Jennings
  • I Should Get up – Teddy Thompson

One of my favorite tracks above is not listed in the liner notes for the album on which it originally appeared. Anyone know which one?

An old friend and concert companion of mine featured the song “November” prominently at her wedding reception. Ever since, that’s what I think of when I hear that song. Oddly, that particular wedding reception was held the same day the Eagles drafted Donovan McNabb. It was also the Saturday prior to the Columbine shooting, which occurred just outside Denver, which happened to be the honeymoon destination of the newlyweds.

So there’s a pretty strange juxtaposition of memories that tend to tag along when I’m reminded of that day. Still, that reception was highly enjoyable, and the happy couple seems to be doing well together, all ominous associations aside.

Just take a seat, they’re always free:

I heart Cracker like you wouldn’t believe. I used to think I could be a Eurotrash girl when I grew up.

My brother tells me I should listen to Mason Jennings. Maybe I’ll do that…

Yay! I am thrilled to see that Mason Jennings has appeared in your set, especially that song.

Rachel – Cracker rocks. I fell in love with “Eurotrash Girl” the first time I heard it on a friends CD player. Sadly, I never met an actual Eurotrash girl who inspired the same sentiment, though I have met someone who may qualify as an angel in black.

For more on Mason Jennings, Marisa might be a better person to ask…

Jessica – wish I could take more credit for the list, but the great god of Windows Media chooses my path. All I do is follow
;)

Marisa – I like what little Mason Jennings I have, but I may need to find someone to steal more stuff from.

Ah, Duncan. You are so underrated. I highly suggest trying to catch the musical he wrote the music for, Howard. It’s supposed to be good. Spring Awakening.
