Friday Random Ten XII
(nothing does compare to her eyes)

Here it is again—late, but not as late as last week’s edition. As Mark says, “hit ‘shuffle’ on your favorite digital music player … and report on the first ten songs that it spits out.” Will do.

1. Out of My Hands – Bonehead (Fade)
2. Loser – Cracker (Kerosene Hat)
3. Out of Order – Duncan Sheik (Duncan Sheik)
4. Please Don’t Rock Me Tonight – Fountains of Wayne (Fountains of Wayne)
5. Dancing Nancies – Dave Matthews Band (Under the Table and Dreaming)
6. Such Great Heights – Iron and Wine (Garden State: Music from the Motion Picture)
7. Shimmer – Fuel (Sunburn)
8. The Body is a Stairway of Skin – Over the Rhine (Films for Radio)
9. Bedspring Kiss – Jellyfish (Bellybutton)
10. How Sweet It Is (to Be Loved by You) – Marvin Gaye (The Very Best of Marvin Gaye)

The awards:

  • Prettiest unknown track: Out of My Hands (you can hear it in the music archives on the Bonehead website)
  • Song I was most surprised to hear in a recent commercial (for m&m’s, right?): Such Great Heights (also kind of pretty, I guess)
  • Song that sounds so much better by Marvin Gaye than it does by James Taylor: How Sweet It Is (no offense to JT —it just isn’t your style, in my opinion)
  • Performers on this list I’ve seen in person: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, & 8

And a tip of the hat to other Random 10-er’s out there I haven’t already mentioned:

Cover That Wasn’t So Great to Start Wtih Award: Loser—perhaps the worst song I’ve heard from Cracker, who otherwise do a pretty good job… in their Cracker-esque sort of way…

It is a Dead song—kind of lowers the bar musically…

The first and last keystrokes I’ll waste on this one… hopefully The Great Raid
