Breaking the cycle

“Anyone who has ever struggled with poverty knows
how extremely expensive it is to be poor.”

-James Baldwin

Karl’s been writing on the overall experience and effects of homelessness. His perspective is certainly a credible one, as he has felt the brunt of this problem firsthand. As one who has pulled himself “up by the bootstraps” he also understands that sometimes the lift you get from others is a vital link in the chain of recovery.

His accounts of the issues of homelessness and poverty are a valuable read to anyone who thought they understood these problems as if they were just the effects of personal irresponsibility. I recommend reading the posts he’s culled into a new Philly Future category called “Breaking the Cycle.”

Another pertinent way to get involved with what’s being done to combat homelessness in the local area is to attend next week’s Project H.O.M.E. Inaugural Young Friends Event at the University of the Arts’ Great Hall, 320 South Broad St. in Philadelphia. Don’t be shy about visiting the Project H.O.M.E. website for more info on what they’re trying to do.
