I suppose there are always going to be those who seek to protect their profit by the most blunt tactics possible. It certainly is easier than seeking a more proactive solution.
In the case of these DRM practitioners, their tactics are not only annoying (and potentially harmful), but also very easy to get around, which makes them ineffectual, especially as it pertains to those who are the biggest infringement threats.
