Friday Random Ten XXXIII
(anything I tell you very well may be a lie)

No big intro this week—just the list and some trailing notes:
1. Happy Is a Yuppie Word – Switchfoot (Nothing Is Sound)
“It’s empty as an argument;
I’m running down a life that won’t cash out.”

2. How Long Have You Been Stoned – Over the Rhine (Ohio)
“What is it like to be the only somebody in the room?
-just what does it cost you to be you?”

3. A Sort of Homecoming [live] – U2 (Wide Awake in America)
“See faces ploughed like fields that once
gave no resistance”

4. Throw It All Away – Toad the Wet Sprocket (Coil)
“With the time i waste on the life i never had
I could’ve turned myself into a better man.”

5. California Sex Lawyer – Fountains of Wayne (Out-of-State Plates)
“I’ve got the looks that kill.
I’ve got a license to love.
I’ve got a German Shepherd,
And his name is Doug…”

6. Fair – Remy Zero (Villa Elaine)
“Sing to me hope as she’s
thrown on the sand;
all of our work
is raided again”

7. Blue Skies – 77’s (Live at the LPPOA [Bootleg])
“All she needed was a blue sky hangin’ ‘round
to keep the rain from comin’ down.

8. Whipping Post – Allman Brothers Band (A Decade of Hits 1969-1979)
“I drown myself in sorrow as I look at what you’ve done.
Nothin’ seems to change, bad times stay the same and I can’t run.”

9. Nada – The Refreshments (Fizzy Fuzzy Big & Buzzy)
“I hear the thunder from the storm down in Mexico
and I leave the border far behind.
I feel the dust coat my teeth and turn my sweat to mud;
I tip the bottle and bite the lime.”

10. Bedspring Kiss – Jellyfish (Bellybutton)
“Jimmy, his secrets out-
-the one he locked inside and denied every word about.”

Favorite: 9 (great road song)
from a great album of B-sides: 5 (from a collection that includes the best Brittney Spears cover. Ever.)

Other random ten addicts: Andrea, Ben , Luna, Marisa, Mark

Friday Random Ten – The “So This Is That iTunes Thingy The Youngsters Are Always Talking About” Edition

Time for Friday Random Ten, where you hit shuffle on your favorite digital music player (for me my Windows MediaPlayer iTunes at work) and report on the first ten songs that it spits out. So it’s like this: I needed

It’s a cold, cruel Friday morning, isn’t it, Steve? I know typos aren’t an everyday thing around here, but I swear it’s just an honest mistake…

Well, I wasn’t trying to be cruel… esp. on a Friday (the 13th no less) morning. It just struck me as a particularly funny typo. Not far from Mike Roe’s oft repeated gag about “a medley of our hit”.

Typos are the Spice of Life!

No, I started to make that connection a little too late. Btw, Steve, have I ever pushed the Refreshments on you? It’s some pretty decent stuff. Soutwestern Rock and Roll from Arizona way.

I remember reading about them somewhere and thinking they sounded (as in style and sensibilities) pretty good. You’ll have to push just a wee bit harder…
