Friday Random Ten XXXVI
(down the sink of your conscience)
1. Seek Up – Dave Matthews (Live at Luther College)
“Late at night with TV’s hungry child, his belly swells.
Oh, for a price of a coke or a smoke I could keep alive those hungry eyes.”
2. Imagine That – Lost Dogs (Little Red Riding Hood)
“There’s a book about us filled with hope and despair.
It’s tells of crooks and crusaders, of clowns and kings…”
3. Seconds – U2 (War)
“And they’re doing the atomic bomb;
do they know where the dance comes from?
And they’re doing the atomic bomb;
they want you to sing along.”
4. Real Down Town – Vigilantes of Love (Blister Soul)
“Hey, look at me now,
I’ve been impaled on the horns of your sacred cow”
5. Flushed from the Bathroom of Your Heart – Johnny Cash (At Folsom Prison)
“Up the elevator of your future I’ve been shafted;
On the calendar of your events I’m last week…”
6. Half a Woman – Fountains of Wayne (Out-of-State Plates)
“They called him Great Scott because he was great.
They called her Great Susan ‘cause she was his date…”
7. All Messed up – Vigilantes of Love (Welcome to Struggleville)
“I could’ve told you you were on the wrong track;
I could’ve told you about the knife in your back;
I could’ve told you ‘bout the people you see;
all of those friends are just your enemies.”
8. Crazy – Seal (Seal [1991])
“No, we’re never gonna survive unless we are a little crazy…”
9. Crazy – Barenaked Ladies (Gordon)
“I’m a few bricks short of a load, but a full load always hurt my back.
I flew over the cuckoo’s nest and I’m never ever coming back…”
10. Antarctica – Midnight Oil (Blue Sky Mining)
“I’m a short fuse, I’m a slow blues,
I’m a landslide hummin’, I’m a downhill runnin’…”
Won’t be picking favorites today—in my humble opinion, there’s not a bad song in the bunch. That said, having 8 and 9 come up that way makes me wonder if the Windows Media Player has some little guy inside it just messing with my head…
Others spinning lists today: Andrea, Ben, Brian, Luna, Mac, Marisa, Mark
