The dark side of refrigerator art

In an update on a recent post mentioning Darfur, Tom was kind enough to drop by and steer me toward a disturbingly poignant collection of drawings by children not far-enough removed from the horrors of Darfur. They’re disturbing, but not unnecessarily so, in my opinion.

View the pictures, because most of us need to be reminded. Then feel free to write your representatives.

That really brought it home. You just can’t help but wonder how kids like this can ever be “normal” again… The holocaust just keeps going on and on… Pretty neat letter writing thingy they got over there at Public Citizen. An excellent idea. I’m well on my way to being an involved citizen.

Thanks

I can’t believe more people aren’t paying attention to this horror. At least some of us still pay attention to what’s been happening, even as we find ways to overstretch the military so we don’t have any real capability to help where we were needed even before the Iraq fiasco.

Steve, I don’t think they ever will be normal again, but at least something could be done to stop it from happening to more kids. And the letter-writing thing from Public Citizen is one of my favorites to use when I get a bit annoyed with my fine congressional reps.

Kim, I’m not sure the U.S. armed response would have to be that substantial. I’m not expert, but I think heavier political pressure might be enough. For a more educated read on the topic, Tom Carter (a retired Army Colonel, who has also had his experiences relating to the UN) has some good stuff at his blog.
