It’s a little bit funny…

but as I was driving down the road about an hour ago, I saw a driver toss an empty plastic Tropicana orange juice bottle out the window of his truck. What struck me as odd was that he was driving one of those collection trucks for curbside recycling.

Man, that is cruel irony. It is so strange to see anyone throw stuff out the window…it was crazy because when I was a kid, people did it all the time. And then one of the great public service commercials of all time changed peoples’ behaviors…it was the crying Indian. Ever see that one?

I recall the crying Indian, Frank. I think I was first taken back by the sheer fact that someone was actually throwing trash out the window in broad daylight; the other irony took a bit longer to register…

Steve Martin had a comedy bit that ended “Always take a litter bag in your car. It doesn’t take up much room and if it gets full you can toss it out the window.” I’m not sure that’s a constructive addition here, but it sort of seemed like the same kind of juxtaposition of ideas.

Or not.

Cziltang,

At least if it’s in a bag before you throw it out the window there’s a little bit of mystery, right? Heck, it could even be something else someone might want, like a cat or something…

Perhaps that’s the idea behind the old-timey phrase “pig in a poke”. “Cat in a litter bag” doesn’t have the same feel though.
