Friday Random Ten
(what about Headman Shabalala?)

A quiz, with possible prizes, at the tail of this post.

1. Changed – Fountains of Wayne (Out-of-State Plates)
2. Backseat of a Greyhound Bus – Sara Evans (Restless)
3. Exit Music (for a film) – Radiohead (OK Computer)
4. Kites without Strings – 77’s (Live at the LPPOA)
5. Celtic Aggression – Tonic (Lemon Parade)
6. Nada – The Refreshments (Fizzy Fuzzy Big & Buzzy)
7. Plowed – Sponge (Rotting Pinata)
8. Worldwide – Adam Again (Dig)
9. WWOZ - Better than Ezra (Friction, Baby)
10. Red Hill Town – U2 (The Joshua Tree)

Running with lists: Ben, Brian, Ellen, Jess, Luna, Marisa, Matthew, Sherri

And did I say something about a quiz with prizes?

The basic perameters are as follows: Answer via email, lest you fail to get all three answers correct and give answers to someone else (which you’re free to do, if you choose, but I’m curious to see who can come up with them first).

The first respondent to get all three answers may actually receive one of the following prizes: a CD of the above list (which does in fact contain some music that 99.999% of the world will have great difficulty finding), a movie gift card, or a drink courtesy of me – all depending on which prize is most desired/practical for whoever prevails.

The questions:

  1. What is #9 named for, and in what city is/was it located?
  2. The artist for #6 is credited with creating the theme for what Fox TV show?
  3. Which song on the list spawned the title quote?

I do believe the Refreshments penned the “King of the Hill” theme song – which if you listen to the opening chords, it sounds an awful lot like Midnight Oil’s “King of the Mountain”. Coincidence?

I’m up and…oooh, a quiz. I’ll have to take a second and draw up an e-mail here.

The response turnout to the quiz was almost shocking. A few people even had the correct answers, which are documented in Wade’s two previous comments.

Somebody at least tell me it took a few minutes to conjure the correct responses… ?

btw, Wade:

Yes, I do hear King of the Mountain in the opening chords of the King of the Hill theme. I’ve always noticed it, from the first time I heard the show’s theme, but until you mentioned it, I never thought of the similarities in the titles. Hmmm…

[…] In a surprising twist following yesterday’s Friday Random Ten quiz, I received close to a dozen responses, a few of which even had all three correct answers. Congratulations to those who found the right responses. […]
