Goodbye, World Cup

“Now that the World Cup has been head-butted in the sternum by France’s Zinedine Zidane, soccer fans can get 4 years of relief from narrow-minded Americans who drone on in their predictable proclamations about the uselessness of the sport that was watched by a billion people on Sunday.”
- Drew McQuade

Yes, I love good old original football, or soccer, as some call it. I grew up playing it, remember it fondly whenever I get to see it being played at a decent level, and I even got to watch a few games of this year’s tournament. As with every other time this sport comes under the spotlight here in America, I grew weary of listening to “sports” commentators expend seemingly infinite amounts of hot air deriding a sport they insisted stirred no passion in them whatsoever.
