I was working on a couple posts I thought would be really clever a few hours ago. Then I was shaken to learn of the passing of a fellow Philly blogger.
Well, to call Star Foster just another Philly blogger would be to vastly shortchange the infectious spirit she brought to everything she did. I can’t think of an adequate way to describe it to folks who never had the chance to meet or interact with her. I desperately wanted something better to say in a post about a person who impressed me from the first time I read her words, and whom I found equally (if not more) impressive in real life.
That she was taken so suddenly and so young compounds the loss with the realization that we all have a limited time on this earth.
And that each day is a gift.
Losing someone whose sheer presence was a gift to so many should underscore the need to appreciate what Star brought to all who knew her, in both the real world and the virtual one. It’s also a sobering reminder that we should take more opportunities to let the precious people in our lives know how much we appreciate them.
Out of deference to a person I wish I’d known better, those clever posts I imagined writing will have to wait at least few days. In the space between now and then, I offer my condolences and prayers to anyone feeling the sting of her absence.
UPDATE: For other remembrances of Star, as well as comprehensive links to many other tributes to her life and information on final arrangements, either of the following links is a good place to start:
