lazy afternoon
thinking of nothing
and nothing thinking of me;
hiding discreetly.
As Philly officially goes from 5th to 6th largest U.S. city…

Favorite tune on this list is “A Matter of Time” from Los Lobos
Color me happy when I found out the latest from Loudon Wainwright would be on eMusic. “Grey in L.A.” and “Daughter” (both from the Strange Weirdos album) were two songs that caught my ear while watching the closing credits to Knocked Up.
Wherever they always appear:
Ben, Brian, Cziltang, Fred, Lauren, Marisa, Rachel, Troy
Metroblogging Marisa posted yesterday about the day of silence, during which online radio stations will be going dark to protest the new royalty requirements, a change aimed squarely at online streaming radio stations. (Click here to sign a petition regarding the upcoming changes.)
Does anyone else remember how record companies used to have to bribe radio stations to help give their records more exposure? I thought airplay on radio stations (on or offline) actually enhanced the chances of new listeners hearing music, thus leading to more sales.
Or has the recording industry just gone completely insane? And would you be surprised if it had?
Yet another reason to buy independent music.
That online petition, once again, is here.
I finally received my first bit of physical correspondence related to The Modern Letter project. I assume it arrived Saturday, though I didn’t notice it until just yesterday.
I was starting to suspect I was the only one taking part in this little project (a sort of blind pen-pal service). I’ve yet to receive the initial letter someone out there is supposed to be sending my way, but thankfully my June recipient was kind enough to make me feel like part of the club. My respondent also has a blog website. It’s even got a definite article in the url, just like mine.
(The photo above was taken of the newly-arrived letter, and it just happens to reflect a mental state I wish I could master right now.)
Exactly 50/50 on the male/female vocalist ratio

That’s what’s been happening in my head lately, which is why I can’t bring myself to blog in long form these days.
Most of my thoughts will be relegated to the seventeen daily syllables seen in the upper right-hand corner, at least for a while.
As I wrote in another cursory dad’s day post already this morning, fatherhood is a title much easier to get than it is to earn. In recognition of that reality, I’d like to wish a happy Father’s Day to all the fathers out there who’ve really put their best effort into earning the title – especially my father.
I wouldn’t have quite the paternal appreciation I do if not for the example set by my father. I’m going to continue a tradition of sorts by pointing to last year’s post for the occasion, a post that points back even further and steals a great poetic expression from Robert Hayden.
